Advocacy
Through its advocacy work, Fight For Right helps transform approaches to disability policy in Ukraine and supports government institutions in implementing international human rights standards.
We work to ensure that Ukraine fully moves away from the outdated medical model of disability and adopts a human rights-based approach. Our advocacy operates at both the national and international levels and aims to ensure that the voices and needs of persons with disabilities are reflected in the European integration process, in every reform, and in every decision.
Overall, Fight For Right’s advocacy work focuses on the following areas:
Deinstitutionalization, legal capacity, and the right to independent living
Harmonization of Ukrainian legislation with the EU disability acquis and participation of the disability community in European integration processes
Reform of national policies on employment, disability assessment, media, and accessibility in line with a human rights-based approach to disability
Documentation of war crimes committed against persons with disabilities, including conflict-related sexual violence
Inclusive humanitarian response
