Repairs and Accessibility of Shelters and Safe Havens

At Fight For Right, we do more than raise awareness about the inaccessibility of bomb shelters and temporary shelters for persons with disabilities—a problem that significantly increases the risks to our lives and the lives of our families and loved ones during Russia’s attacks on Ukraine. We demonstrate how this problem can be addressed and secure resources to carry out the necessary repairs.

After six months of monitoring dozens of bomb shelters across different regions together with disability rights activists, we made two shelters in Kyiv accessible. We also completed partial renovations in ten temporary shelters housing persons with disabilities. These improvements included accessible entrances, restrooms and showers, replacement windows and doors, elevator repairs, and renovations to common and recreation areas.

We also help restore the homes of families of persons with disabilities that have been damaged by Russian shelling.
